Bryan Clay Invitational Kicks Off the Week
Running from Wednesday through Friday in Azusa, California, the Bryan Clay Invitational is named after the Olympic gold medalist Bryan Clay, who won the decathlon in 2008. The event is renowned for its fast track, lively atmosphere, and top-notch competition. The Aztecs are set to take advantage of that fast track right from the get-go!
On Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. PT, Presley Bennett and Maddie Heller will kick things off for the Aztecs in the 10,000-meter run. It’s bound to be an exciting start to their week as they chase personal bests. Following that, on Thursday, Lauren Harper, Sara Jones, Sophia Wolf, Samantha Wood, and Tatum Zinkin are ready to tackle the 800 meters at either 2 p.m. PT or 3:50 p.m. PT. The competition promises to be intense, with the Aztecs eager to make their mark.
The Bryan Clay Invitational will conclude for SDSU with the 1,500 meters, featuring Harper, Jones, Wood, and Zinkin at either 9 a.m. PT or 5 p.m. PT. It’s a jam-packed schedule filled with excitement and anticipation!

After the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Aztecs will switch gears and head to the Mt. SAC Relays, taking place in Walnut, California, on Friday and Saturday. This is another fantastic opportunity for the team to shine and is known for attracting top talent and fierce competition.
Friday will see the Aztecs compete in several events, beginning with the Long Jump featuring Maya Gorman and Pavana Nagaraj at 11 a.m. PT. Following that, Mia Reid will take on the 100 Hurdles at 11:25 a.m. PT. The excitement only builds as Olivia Hicks, Aji Mbye, and Mikaela Warr line up for the 100 meters at 1:15 p.m. PT.
Another standout event on Friday is the 400 Hurdles with Anna Mager at 2:20 p.m. PT, and don’t miss the 200 meters where Laraigh Allen, Hicks, Jada Pierre, and Warr will compete at 3:05 p.m. PT. Lauren Harper has recorded the second-fastest 800 meters in SDSU history, finishing with an impressive 2:05.00 at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Not to be outdone, Sophia Wolf achieved her personal best with a time of 2:06.67, marking the seventh-fastest in the school’s history.
Meanwhile, Pavana Nagaraj made headlines by setting a freshman record in the long jump at the Mt. SAC Relays, clearing an impressive 20 feet, 9 inches. Additionally, Jordan Leveque soared to victory in the pole vault, while Anna Mager and Sophia Wolf took home impressive second-place finishes in their respective races.
