The weekend of April 2-3 was filled with high school sports action across Orange County, featuring thrilling baseball and softball matches, as well as boys volleyball and lacrosse events. Canyon, Fullerton, and Rosary Academy stood out with significant victories, while the boys volleyball teams engaged in competitive matchups. With upcoming games on the horizon, sports fans are sure to remain excited about the local teams’ performances.
It was a lively couple of days for high school sports in Orange County as teams battled it out on the baseball diamond, the softball field, and the courts. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just love keeping up with local activities, there was plenty to cheer about this past weekend!
With the Ryan Lemmon Invitational showcasing some thrilling matches on April 2, it was Canyon that stood out as they secured a solid 7-2 victory over Woods Cross from Utah. Pitcher Zhang was instrumental in the win, throwing four innings with an impressive zero runs and just one hit allowed. Key players included Lau and Luevano, both of whom made significant contributions at the plate.
In another exciting matchup, Fullerton pulled off a 6-3 win against Irvine, thanks to pitcher Wise, who kept the opposition at bay. Fany’s stellar performance was the talk of the game as he went 4-for-4 with a triple and two stolen bases, while Meni added valuable runs for his team.
Foothill also shined with a 6-1 victory over Northwood, where pitcher Ujiie showed mastery on the mound, striking out four batters. Rycroft’s home run and Green’s solid hitting helped secure another win for Foothill.
Over at Villa Park, the home team didn’t disappoint either, as they blanked Pacifica with a score of 4-0. McGuire’s pitching was a highlight of the game, allowing only two hits across five innings.
In other notable scores, Laguna Beach narrowly edged La Serna with a close 3-2 win, and Crean Lutheran triumphed over Tustin with a dominant 6-0 score.
On the softball front, the prestigious Michelle Carew Classic saw Rosary Academy clinch a 5-3 win against Vista Murrieta, led by the sensational Hay Huerta, who had a perfect day at bat.
Orange Lutheran made headlines with a commanding 10-1 victory over Grand Terrace, thanks to pitcher Marsh and a stellar offensive performance highlighted by Nichols and Smith, each contributing significantly to the scoreboard.
Norco kept the momentum going with a solid win over Esperanza at 3-0, while Roosevelt had a nail-biter against Canyon, squeaking out a thrilling 10-9 victory. Other scores saw Fullerton narrowly defeat Pacifica 8-7 and JSerra taking down Huntington Beach 3-0.
The boys volleyball scene brought some competitive action, with Edison taking victory against Newport Harbor in straight sets 25-21, 25-22, 25-23. In the Pacific Coast League, Sage Hill faced Laguna Beach, winning 3-1 after a spirited match.
Lacrosse excitement continued with Corona del Mar dominating Edison 17-2 and Mater Dei overcoming Santa Margarita with a score of 10-6.
April 3 brought with it championship thrills at the National Classic, where Aquinas squeezed past Cypress 2-1, showcasing some impressive play. Cypress’s Short had a notable day, even as Aquinas’s Perez put in a fantastic pitching performance.
Other matches saw La Habra narrowly defeat Liberty 8-5, and El Dorado trouncing Bingham with an 13-1 scoreline. Damien and Yorba Linda had a spirited contest with Damien rising victorious 8-5.
