Buena Park came alive on February 23 as vinyl enthusiasts gathered at the much-anticipated OC Records Show. The event buzzed with excitement at the UFCW Union Hall building, drawing crowds from all over Southern California to indulge their passion for music. The doors swung open at 7:15 a.m. and stayed open until 3 p.m., allowing ample time for attendees to browse through a vast collection of records and more.
The OC Records Show featured an impressive lineup of over 90 vendors showcasing their diverse selections of vinyl records, CDs, DVDs, and even vintage toys and T-shirts. This melting pot of music culture attracted people of all ages, with many eager to expand their collections and find that elusive record they’ve been searching for.
The event was organized by Ryan and Cynthia Blavout, who have been integral figures in the vinyl community for decades. Ryan has been part of the show for an incredible 25 years, both as a vendor and a customer. Having taken over the show in 2022, he continues the legacy that began in 1986. His dedication to the vinyl scene has helped define the feel of the event that countless people have come to love.
Among the crowd was Zoei Ma, an avid jazz record lover, who was drawn to the show after seeing its vibrant advertisements. The excitement of music brought attendees together, making the atmosphere feel warm and inviting. Families also joined in on the fun; Romain Del Bello traveled all the way from Paris with his daughters, creating cherished memories through shared music experiences.
Vendors like Manuel Rosales, owner of Vinyl Rose Records, showcased their extensive collections that are not simply sold but also cherished. Rosales, who began collecting records in 1992, integrates record collecting into his teaching at South El Monte High School, proving that the love for vinyl can transcend generations. Meanwhile, local collector Steph Yi frequently attends the show, focusing on her passion for Japanese city pop vinyl each month.
In a true testament to the show’s wide appeal, Liliana Mallow made her way from Mexico and spent an astonishing $800 on Latin American vinyl at Tomas Navarro’s Discos Lo Nuestro booth. This highlights the reach of the show, attracting collectors from afar, united by their love for music.
As the event continued, discussions about the charm of physical copies of music sparked interest, especially among younger generations.
