Greensboro, North Carolina – The sun is shining a little brighter, and the courts are hotter than ever, as the North Carolina A&T women’s tennis team has kicked off the 2025 season with an impressive unbeaten record of 5-0. Can you believe it? The Aggies are making serious waves in the tennis world, and they are showing no signs of slowing down!
On March 7, 2025, the Aggies secured a 5-1 victory over California University of Pennsylvania in a match that took place at the beautiful United States Tennis Association Oak Street campus. The excitement was palpable as the teams took to the courts, and the Aggies didn’t disappoint their loyal fans!
Adding even more spark to their season, A&T’s spring break trip to Orlando allowed them to play in a total of four matches, and guess what? They returned with a perfect record from Florida! Talk about a road trip to remember. It’s not every day a team can boast that kind of success while soaking up the sun.
Despite not having a No. 3 doubles team or a No. 6 singles player all season, the Aggies pulled together and claimed the crucial doubles point at the match against California. Junior Hana El Sherif and sophomore Randy Rakotoarilala teamed up at No. 2 doubles to achieve a convincing 6-1 victory against California’s Diletta Maria Mungo and Lilli Schreiber. Meanwhile, the dynamic freshmen duo of Dorsa Cheraghi and Juana Gomez Weiss snagged a thrilling 6-4 win against Teddi Isherwood and Leandra Guldimann, setting the tone for what was to come.
When it came time for singles play, the Aggies were ready to dominate. Juana Gomez Weiss lit up the court with a stunning performance, decisively winning her match at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-1 and 6-0 against Lilli Schreiber. Talk about a showstopper!
The only point for California came through a forfeit at No. 6 singles, but the Aggies weren’t fazed. El Sherif continued the winning streak at No. 3 singles, achieving a solid victory of 6-2, 6-3 against Mungo. But it didn’t stop there! Freshman Flavia Villegas clinched the overall match for A&T at No. 5 singles, battling tenaciously to win her match with a final score of 6-4 in the third set against Garance Laforet, after a nail-biting tiebreaker loss in the second set.
Not to be outdone, Randy Rakotoarilala finished strong at No. 2 singles, winning her match with scores of 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 against Guldimann, which brought her seasonal record to a remarkable 5-0.
