Recent trends show fluctuations in California's gas prices.
California’s gas prices are seeing a slight dip, with Los Angeles County’s averages dropping to $4.742 per gallon. This reduction offers relief to drivers, though prices remain higher than a month ago. Orange County mirrors this trend with a small decline, while national averages rise slightly. Experts warn of potential future increases due to policy changes and refinery issues. Overall, proactive choices at the pump may help motorists navigate this fluctuating market.
Hey there, California! If you’ve been filling up at the pump recently, you might have noticed a bit of a change. Let’s dive into the latest happenings regarding gas prices in our Golden State, especially in the bustling city of Los Angeles.
First things first, the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gas in Los Angeles County has seen a slight dip, dropping by 1 cent to hit $4.742. This marks the biggest decrease we’ve seen since December 7. Over the past eight days, prices have dropped a total of 4.2 cents, which is honestly a nice little relief for drivers.
Here’s how it played out: for six days in a row, the price went down but then ticked up a smidge (four-tenths of a cent) on Monday. Thankfully, it resumed its downward trend again on Tuesday! Currently, it’s about 3.6 cents cheaper than what we saw just a week ago and 16.1 cents lower than this time last year. However, hold on to your steering wheels; it is still 19.7 cents more than what we were paying just one month ago.
To put things in perspective, the price has plummeted a whopping $1.752 since it reached a terrifying high of $6.494 back on October 5, 2022. Phew!
Just a little south, in Orange County, gas prices saw a small dip as well. They’ve decreased by seven-tenths of a cent to settle at $4.708, which marks the eighth decrease in just nine days. The county saw a total drop of 4.2 cents over that same time frame. Similar to the trend in Los Angeles, this average is 3.6 cents lower than last week and 16.6 cents lower than a year ago. But don’t forget, it’s still 20.4 cents more than just a month back.
In case you’re wondering, Orange County’s prices have also dropped significantly, by $1.751 from their record high of $6.459 on that same infamous October day.
Even more striking is the fact that the national average has dropped a staggering $1.917 since hitting a peak of $5.016 back on June 14, 2022.
Another hiccup in the system comes from a recent fire and explosion at the Martinez Refining Company on February 1. This incident has created some supply issues, particularly in Northern California. Currently, three of the five refineries in that area are offline, creating potential supply challenges not just for California, but also impacting nearby states like Oregon and Washington.
Happy driving, and if you’re out on the roads, take care of each other out there!
