Exciting Changes ahead for Cal State Fullerton!
Fullerton, CA – Cal State Fullerton is gearing up for an exciting new chapter as Khalilah Doss steps into the role of Vice President for Student Affairs starting July 16. This decision comes after a meticulous national search aimed at finding just the right person to lead the university’s efforts in enhancing the student experience.
Who is Khalilah Doss?
Known for her dedication and hands-on approach, Doss is not just any administrator; she’s someone who truly understands the highs and lows of academic life. Drawing from her own experiences as an undergraduate student, she is deeply committed to making a meaningful impact in the lives of students. Doss believes in helping students navigate their academic journeys while preparing them to be global citizens.
Currently, she serves as the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Middle Tennessee State University. With impressive credentials, including a PhD in Educational Administration and Higher Education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Policy Analysis from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Doss brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, and Marketing from McKendree University. Talk about a strong educational background!
The Mission Ahead
Doss will oversee the Division of Student Affairs at CSUF, which plays a crucial role in fostering community involvement, promoting multicultural experiences, providing leadership training, and facilitating career development programs. This division is home to approximately 400 employees and includes several departments that support the vibrant campus life at CSUF, such as Associated Students and Titan Athletics.
Why the Excitement?
CSUF President Ronald S. Rochon has already expressed his trust in Doss’s ability to lead the team effectively. He praised her decades of experience, commitment to student leadership, and her compassionate Leadership Style. With Doss at the helm, the university community can expect to see innovative programs that aim to enhance student engagement, promote a strong sense of belonging, and drive academic excellence.
A Decidedly Thoughtful Search Process
Khalilah Doss was selected as one of three finalists for the Vice President position, alongside CSUF’s own Dean of Students, Vincent Vigil, and Frederick Smith, Associate Vice President for Equity & Community Inclusion at San Francisco State. A comprehensive search committee was formed with faculty members and representatives appointed by President Rochon. They organized public forums where all candidates presented their visions to the campus community, ensuring transparent communication and collaboration throughout the selection process.
Feedback gathered from students and staff was instrumental in shaping the committee’s recommendation, ultimately leading to Doss’s appointment—a decision that comes hot on the heels of the removal of former Vice President Tonantzin Oseguera in April 2024. David Forgues has been filling the role of interim Vice President since that time, but now the future is looking brighter under Doss’s leadership.
What’s Next?
As Khalilah Doss gears up for her new role, students, faculty, and staff across campus are eager to see her plans come to fruition. With a focus on enhancing community ties and fostering a culture of inclusivity, Doss is ready to roll up her sleeves and work collaboratively with the CSUF community. It’s an exciting time to be at Cal State Fullerton, and with Doss leading the charge, the possibilities are endless!
