Ian Moore Joins the Anaheim Ducks with a Two-Year Entry-Level Contract

In a thrilling development for hockey fans, the Anaheim Ducks have officially welcomed defenseman Ian Moore into the fold by signing him to a two-year entry-level contract. This contract is set to kick off in the 2024-25 NHL season and will carry through to the 2025-26 season. Talk about a bright future!

A Bright Young Talent

At just 23 years old, Moore was born on January 4, 2002, and is already making waves in the hockey world. Just recently, he wrapped up his collegiate career at Harvard University, where he played from 2021 to 2025. During his time there, he put up impressive stats, notching 9 goals and 47 assists for a total of 56 points over the course of 122 games. His contributions were crucial in helping the Crimson make back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances in 2022 and 2023.

A Leader on the Ice

Moore didn’t just contribute; he stepped up as captain for the second consecutive year during his senior season. His leadership was evident as he tallied 3 goals and 11 assists (a total of 14 points) in the 2024 season. Not only was he an offensive contributor, but he also led all Harvard skaters in blocked shots with a remarkable total of 60, showcasing his defensive prowess. He even caught attention outside the rink by being nominated for the prestigious ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Transition to Professional Play

Before officially signing with the Ducks, Moore took a leap into the professional realm by joining the San Diego Gulls, the Ducks’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, on an Amateur Tryout on March 20, 2025. In his brief stint, he participated in 9 games and logged 1 goal and 4 assists for a total of 5 points. Excitingly, he scored his first professional goal on March 28, 2025, against Tucson.

A Stellar College Career

Looking back at his time at Harvard, Moore made a significant impact as a freshman, racking up 15 points (with 2 goals and 13 assists) and enjoying a stellar +16 rating in 35 games. His performance earned him a place on the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team and an All-Ivy League Honorable Mention. He was selected by the Ducks in the third round as the 67th overall pick of the 2020 NHL Draft, further underlining his journey to the NHL.

Experience Before Harvard

Before making the jump to college hockey, Moore showcased his skills with the Chicago Steel in the USHL, where he played a vital role in leading the team to victory in the Clark Cup during the 2020-21 season. His impressive stats included 10 goals and 14 assists in the regular season, plus solid playoff contributions with 3 assists during postseason action.

High School Stardom

Ian’s journey started long before his college days. During his high school career at St. Marks School, he absolutely stood out by leading all New England Prep Hockey defensemen with an astonishing 46 points (comprising 12 goals and 34 assists) in just 28 games during the 2019-20 season. He also took his talents to the international stage, representing Team USA at the 2022 World Junior Championship, where he tallied an assist and earned a +1 rating over five tournament games.

What’s Next for Moore?

Standing tall at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 203 pounds, Ian Moore is recognized for being a highly skilled skater and an effective puck-carrier. As he gears up to join the Ducks in a couple of seasons, fans and analysts are buzzing with excitement to see how this young talent will develop in the professional arena. The future sure looks bright for Ian Moore and the Anaheim Ducks!
